Tips for planning a blog for your website
This information is for therapists who are thinking about including a blog on their website or want to improve their existing blog.
Blogs can be used to share information and drive traffic to a website. Normally blogs are updated frequently with new content.
As a therapist you might not have time to write and release multiple articles a week, however this doesn’t mean there is no point in having a blog section on your website.
You might like to include articles on your blog answering some of your more frequently asked questions, for example, ‘what does a therapy session involve?’. Pages like this can be linked to in emails. This helps to keep your emails short and concise, while giving the reader more information if they need it. It also stops you needing to write out the same content in emails which will streamline your admin.
If you regularly use specific therapy language that you feel could do with a detailed explanation, then you can make them into explainer articles, for example, ‘what is trauma?’ or ‘what is the stress response?’
Articles like these help to show visitors to your website that you know what you are talking about.
It is important to remember who your audience is when writing articles. The article needs to be accessible for your audience. An average person looking to hire a therapist doesn’t want to feel confused as they wade through technical jargon so keep the language simple and accessible.
Putting a few blog posts on your website is unlikely to increase your online presence in search engines or increase organic traffic to your website, however a few choice pieces written well can improve your credibility and encourage visitors to your website to click that contact button.
