Tips for designing your home page
This information is for sole traders or small businesses who are creating or updating their website home page.
A good homepage is simple, easy to use, and engaging. It should clearly show your site's purpose and brand.
It should be easy to navigate and help people visiting your site to meet their goals, for example, to find out more about you and your services or to contact you.
Make sure your home page has:
A heading
A sentence about you or your brand
A call to action
If appropriate you might also want to include a few reviews or testimonials.
Keeping this page simple makes it more accessible for your audience. Complicated home pages can be slow to load and confusing, increasing the chances visitors will close your site without engaging with it.
Roughly speaking you can expect about ¾ of your site visitors to scroll down below the fold on your home page. This number drops to ⅕ of visitors who are likely to make it to the bottom of your home page. Use this information to help you position your most important information near the top of your home page.
